THE POTENTIAL OF MASS TIMBER STRUCTURES FOR MIDDLE EAST

INNOVATION COMES WITH A NATURAL MATERIAL

The course, organized by the University of Wollongong with the support of Rothoblaas, is a unique opportunity to learn the advantages and potential of the timber structures, the structural types, the management of the timber construction site, the standard and innovative connection details, examples of construction sites in the Middle East in less than a day. Get the network and know how to be one of the first in the Middle east to build timber structures, with very little competition in the market. In fact, you will meet producers and designers who have already done timber structures in the Middle East and get the chance to engage the right network.

Why participating?

  • CPD points for engineers: with the participations to the course, you can gain CPD points for engineers.

  • Find out the benefits of the timber structures: negative carbon credits and sustainability as a strategical advantage.

  • Learn about the cost of timber structures with the analysis of case studies done in the Middle East.

  • The advantages of fast, prefabricated and easy to build timber structures (construction of the future - don't stay behind).

  • Find out how to design for fire resistance up to 90+ minutes with timber structures and learn about the fire tests results.

  • Is timber a solution also for the warm climates of the Middle East? Find out how to do it and avoid durability issues in the constructions with correct waterproofing details and condensation risk analysis.

  • Not only timber: façades and hybrid structures. Correct material choice for façades build-ups in warm climates, with high UV resistance and good fire reaction.

  • It is a unique chance to  get the network needed for designing with timber.

  • It is a great chance to discuss timber constructions with engineers and experts both from the Wollongong University and designers from UAE and Europe. You will get a wider and more international view of the topics presented.

The course aim is to learn how to correctly design timber structures to avoid issues on site, understand the construction site phases and technical details of a timber buildings.

The goal is to get a complete know-how and discuss the design of concealed connections, the installation of membranes, tapes and profiles for the airtightness, the correct hygrometric behavior, the waterproofing of the building and the detailing of the connection to the ground.

Last, but not least, the speakers will present the “hottest” topics related to timber structures and moderate a debate during the panel discussions. Some of these hot topics will be hybrid structures, connection to the ground, innovative connections, acoustic, optimization of the construction, fire resistance, sustainability.

Target:
The course is tailored for designers, architects, engineers, owners of companies or carpenters. Everyone who wants to better understand the various phases of a timber construction from a practical point of view and discuss the details and solutions in a transversal manner across all construction fields: fixing, airtightness, acoustics, waterproofing, site management and economic advantages.
